🎉 Happy Friday, Friends!
Recently, we've covered a few topics that all go together:
- Exploring new types of movement
- When less is more when it comes to training, and
- Mindset shifts that help you move differently
Today, I want to tie everything together with a few helpful reminders about why we work so hard to maintain and preserve our relationships with movement here at StrongWithDana. It's not just about being able to show up for yourself and others. It's more than the long- and short-term health benefits.
Building and preserving your relationship with movement is important because...
- Movement is an act of self-love,
- Movement is a human right, and...
- Movement is resistance.
You don't need me to tell you that these days, lots of folx feel stuck. There's a lot going on under this current administration that makes it hard to get out of bed. No one knows when all this is going to end. We're dealing with so much politically, economically, and socially – no wonder it's that much more challenging to meet a personal goal or prioritize your needs.
But the answer isn't always "make progress" when you feel stuck. Sometimes, the answer is to just start... moving, physically or mentally. Just wiggling around in the stuck-ness until something feels right. Trying out a mindset shift or reflecting on your thought patterns is the mental way to do this. Trying out a new movement is the physical way.
So when it feels like your feet are stuck to the floor, remember that the goal is just to shift around a little. Ease into an old movement practice you've enjoyed before, or nudge yourself into something new that sounds fun. Taking time to breathe, sweat, and laugh is a purely physical way to begin tackling the existential dread that comes with the type of climate we're in these days.
With you as we keep it moving,
Dana
