Happy Pride Month, Friends!
First of all, for everyone who attended my breath workshop on Sunday – thank you so much.
We had a wonderful morning of setting aside time to prioritize ourselves, learn about the biomechanics of breathing, and how listening to your body can help you feel better, mentally and physically.
Since the breathing workshop was a small group of twelve, I wanted to use this edition of the newsletter to recap some of our important takeaways for folx who couldn’t be there.
1. Remember, there is no perfect breathing. When you're noticing if you're holding your breath or if you're tensed or clenched anywhere, and you begin to unclench, let go and breathe, that's all I want for you.
2. Make sure you refer to your Breath Work zine whenever you need to. Over time, you’ll find letting go of tension becomes easier and more natural.
Plus, a little twist on the classic box breathing drill to reset your nervous system:
➡️ Start seated in a comfortable position. Inhale for whatever count feels natural to you, hold for the same amount of time, and release for the same amount of time. Repeat 5-10 times.
➡️ Use this drill to take a break from writing a stressful email or before engaging in an important conversation. Taking time to breathe can help calm those amped up feelings.
➡️ You may have heard that you have to box breathe for a four count. If that works for you, great, but it doesn’t have to be four!
Feel free to text or email me with any questions or if you need a reminder to breathe, that you're doing your best, and you deserve rest.
As for future newsletters, stay tuned for some thoughts on alternative therapies. Lots of folx have had questions for me lately about how to choose the right muscle rub, acupuncture vs. dry needling, and other fun topics. A lot of these therapies are great, and I want to share my thoughts on them in the next few newsletters so you get alllll the info.
Stay Cool Out There,
Dana
